Publication altert! Growing up Avar: Osteological and Historical Evidence on theTransition into Adulthood in the Avar Empire and thePlasticity of Development

HistoGenes Phd student Paul Klosterman has published an article investigating adolescence in the Avar period. Using graves from the cemeteries of Mödling (Goldene Stiege) and Leobersdorf (Zieglerei Polsterer) the article advances our understanding of individuals' adolescence in an Avar community. Exemplifying HistoGenes's transdisciplinary approach, historical and genetic sources were incorporated, providing a nuanced understanding of the ways and challenges when growing up in the Avar period.
