The HistoGenes team has published an article in Nature concerning the migration of Slavs. Through the combined approach of Archaeology, Anthropology, Historiography and Genetic Analysis a multinational team of HistoGenes researchers was able to shed light on the elusive Slavs. By analysing aDNA of 550 individuals the team was able to determine a common area of origin for the migrating Slavs, spanning from the Baltics to western Ukraine. The results suggest that rather than a controlled and orchestrated migration, small groups comprised of families, moved westward. Differing levels of integration and intermixing with local populations highlight the absence of a "grand strategy", instead suggesting a flexible integration influenced by local features.
